Treatment of Comminuted Semental Tibial Shaft Fractures with Ender Nails

Abstract
Tibia fractures are the most common fracture of the long bone.
Recently, they are more comminuted and associated with more soft tissue injury in proportion to industrial development.
For comminuted and segmental tibial shaft fractures with extensive soft tissue trauma, various types of treatment method are known and many complications are followed frequently ad firm internal fixation may be considered good treatment.
Twenty three cases, treated using Ender nailing method at the department of orthopedic surgery of Masan koryo General Hospital during 4 years from march 1986 to May 1990, were followed up more than 1 year.
@ES The result as follows;
@EN 1. Among the 23 cases, average age is 42.5 and 18 cases are male and most common cause is traffic accident.
2. 16 cases are comminuted. 7 cases are segmental fractures and 17 cases are closed fractures.
3. 18 cases have associated injuries and average operation time is 9.1 days.
4. Average bone union time is 17.9 weeks.
5. Complication include 4 cases superficial infection, 3 cases delayed union, 2 cases angular deformity 1 case rotational deformity, 2 cases shortening of limb, 1 case nail migration.
